03.12.2021, Kiev.

Ukraine has started construction of two navy bases in Berdyansk and Ochakovo, said the Defense Minister of Ukraine Aleksey Reznikov on December 3 during the hour of government’s questions to Verkhovna Rada (the Ukrainian parliament).

“We proceed with the practical phase of the construction of two navy bases in Berdyansk and Ochakovo and other contacts within the agreements with the UK,” the minister said.

Ukraine and the UK signed a memorandum of cooperation to improve Ukraine’s naval power. According to the deal, Kiev will receive new navy platforms and maritime defensive weapons. Also, London promised to help with personnel training, construction of navy bases, and purchase of two Sundown class counter-mine ships.

According to the framework agreement, the UK will grant Ukraine a 1.7 billion pound loan for the projects. The document is presently before Parliament.
