Kurginyan: The US calls the countries that it wants to devour authoritarian

03.11.2021, Moscow.

One of the most significant events of recent times is an attempt to reshape the world, divide it into so-called democratic and authoritarian camps, said political scientist, philosopher, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on October 23 in an interview with the Donetsk Union TV channel.

“Finally, if we talk about the most significant events, it’s an attempt to reshape the whole world – the democratic camp against the authoritarian”, said the political scientist.

Not too long ago, talks about the “death of ideology”, the end of an era was popular and now they had stopped, noted the expert. Ideologies have been “resurrected, risen from the grave, and they are letting out a roar,” and without its knowledge, Russia has suddenly been assigned to a certain ideological camp called authoritarianism.

There are no grounds for this, says Kurginyan.

It is unclear why on earth it happened, to say the least. What’s the matter, do we not have elections? Do we not have opposition parties?” – asks Kurginyan.

He points out that there are no justifiable arguments for listing Russia in the authoritarian camp.

Has one party been ruling for many years? What about Japan? Did one party not rule there for almost 30 years, if I remember correctly? What’s the matter? Why are we suddenly pinned to this camp? It’s because ‘You are at fault that I’m famished’ [Ivan Krylov, The Wolf and the Lamb] ”, concluded the political scientist.

Meanwhile, according to Kurginyan, Russia has ceased to tolerate insults from the West, but Russian authorities keep responding to situational developments. A new strategy has never been presented. For instance, Russia can change its course on convergence with the West to focus on developing its own autonomous civilization.

In October 2020, Assistant to the President of the US for National Security Robert O’Brien said that the world is currently divided into authoritarian countries and democracies under Washington’s leadership.

O’Brien classified Russia, Iran, and China as so-called authoritarian countries. At the same time, according to him, the list of “authoritarian” countries may not be limited to the above.

The aide to the US President did not present any clear criteria for a country’s membership in the democratic camp, with the exception of certain “common values” and “belief in human rights”.
