The period of tolerance is over, but Russia has not changed its policy strategically yet, said political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on October 23 in an interview to the Union channel of Donetsk.
“The period when we would just stand there and say, ‘How wonderfully you slapped us in the face!’ is long over. We are decades past that. Every time they slap us in the face, we get even,” the political scientist noted.
However, he believes, this policy is only situational, as Russia reacts to the adversary’s actions, but it is not strategic.
For example, it has not been said that if NATO does what it does, then “we are changing our concept of integration into the West to a concept of an autonomous civilization.”
“Nothing like that has taken place. No new strategy has been proposed,” Kurginyan noted.
“I like it very much that Lavrov has become strongly energized, and that he is experiencing a burst of energy. He was very tired, but now he has ‘noble fury’ from the standpoint of diplomacy. I like it very much that it is all taking place quite promptly. But all this is a sum of situational actions triggered by the other side,” the political scientist stressed.
As the Rossa Primavera News Agency previously reported, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Aleksandr Grushko said on October 23 that NATO today actually follows the framework of the cold war directing its main forces to counter the so-called “threat from the east.”
Previously, on October 6, the alliance’s leaders decided to cut down the Russian mission to NATO in Brussels. Two vacant places were nullified, and eight more Russian diplomats had their accreditation revoked.
On October 18 the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov said that Russia would suspend its permanent mission to the alliance from November 2021. Operations of the Military Liaison Mission and the NATO Information Office in Moscow were also suspended.
