Russian Minister of Defense announces Russia’s readiness to develop relations with Iran

Russia is ready to support dynamic and multidimensional military cooperation with Iran, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during a meeting in Moscow on October 19 with the Chief of Staff for the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, REGNUM news agency informed.

According to him, the countries have much to discuss, and Russia will continue its efforts to maintain the momentum of their relations. The countries are already actively countering international terrorism in Syria.

Shoigu said, “Our relations are developing very dynamically and are multidimensional in nature, a vivid confirmation of this is our great joint fight against international terrorism. We are ready to continue our effort to maintain the momentum of development of our relations.”

The situation in Afghanistan and neighboring countries is topical now. There are also problems of drug trafficking and manifestations of terrorist activity. He added that the situation is complicated by the efforts of the US authorities, who appeal to different countries to accept Afghan refugees.
