Militants in Syria attempt to attack the Khmeimim airbase

In Syria, militants attempted to attack the Russian Khmeimim airbase by launching a UAV from Idlib in its direction, Rear Admiral Vadim Kulit, deputy head of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in the Syrian Arab Republic, said on September 27, as the center’s website informed.

According to him, at 12.30 p.m., the base’s air defense system radars detected the approach of an enemy drone.

“The missile armament Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon system of the Russian airbase’s destroyed the aerial target at a distance from the airbase,” the Rear Admiral noted.

The militants made no further attempts to attack the Russian airbase that day. There were no casualties and the Khmeimim airbase was operating as planned.

After the incident, the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides once again called on the armed groups in the region to take the path of peaceful settlement and renounce armed provocations.

In recent days the Russian Aerospace Forces have been carrying out a series of strikes on militant positions in Idlib province in northern Syria. The activity of the Russian air force has already angered the Turkish Defense Ministry.

At the same time, the Syrian government demanded the withdrawal of American and Turkish troops from the country, which were called occupiers and pirates plundering the country’s resources. US troops now control areas of the largest oil-producing regions of the country.
