Medvedev: US authorities recognize the collapse of their strategy in Afghanistan

11.09.2021, Moscow.

The US authorities recognized the collapse of their strategy aiming to assert US military and political ubiquitous presence, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said on September 11 in his interview to Gazeta.ru.

According to Medvedev, the US authorities tried to save their reputation and the NATO authority in general by refusing to accept their defeat. Instead of this they have chosen to use the following formula, “they don’t kick us out, we leave ourselves.”

Medvedev stressed that wherever the Americans tried to build a new state, they always left problems behind.

On August 15, the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) seized Kabul and then, on August 16, it made a statement that the war was over. On the night of August 31, American militaries left the Kabul airport putting an end to almost 20-year presence of the US forces in Afghanistan.
