Kurginyan: The Islamists’ takeover of Afghanistan changes the world

27.08.2021, Aleksandrovskoye.

The rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) is an element of the ongoing global transformation, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in a new issue of The Meaning of the Game broadcast published in the movement’s YouTube channel.

“Where is the point in all this? Should it really be called by this strange word ‘transformation’?” said Kurginyan. He added that the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan has happened against the background of “the insane covidization, vaccination, digitalization”.

The analyst gave his assessment of the situation’s repercussions for South Asia.

Kurginyan believes that this new Afghanistan is powerful enough to exert strong influence on Pakistan and China, in particular on the Uyghurs, as their activation still presents a salient threat to Beijing. According to him, Iran has always been afraid of the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) because the latter can pursue a very dangerous drug strategy menacing Tehran. The Islamists’ victory in Afghanistan will also inevitably affect the countries of Central Asia.

The expert said that the current processes are immediately affecting Pakistan, which keeps the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) under close supervision, and India, whose relations with Pakistan can hardly be characterized as excellent. New Delhi is very preoccupied with the situation in Afghanistan.

“Is Pakistan making the choice: who will be its friend? China or the USA? Once, it had friendly relations with the Americans. And now, what is Pakistan going to do?” asked Kurginyan.

“What about Turkey, which is establishing different connections with Pakistan in order to befriend it? What is Turkey going to do in these new conditions? Will Turkey also go under Chinese control or maybe withdraw from NATO? Or will it come back to NATO, which Turkey has in fact never left? And what will happen then? Which position will Iran take? What will happen to Japan? How will all of this affect US-Chinese relations, which have been continuously worsening, while their economic interdependence has only been increasing? And Europe, which choice will it make? The US tells Europe: ‘You should not be friends with China under any circumstances, but what we do with the Chinese is our business’.”

On August 15, the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) seized Kabul without armed resistance. Before that in the course of several days, the Afghani government forces surrendered multiple cities and garrisons to the enemy almost without resistance. Finally, the power in the country completely passed to the Islamists.
