The Minsk agreements are the only way to reach peace in Ukraine, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said on August 20 at a press conference after his talks with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“I agree with Federal Chancellor regarding the Minsk agreements and the Normandy Format. We have no other instrument to reach peace, and I believe that we should treat it carefully and respectfully despite the fact that we have not reached our final resolution goals,” Putin said.
He noted that Russia is seriously concerned with Kiev’s statements rejecting the previously reached agreements. According to Vladimir Putin, the Ukrainian authorities make different statements at international talks and domestically. One can see this in the speeches of the Ukrainian top officials.
On June 17, the Advisor of Zelensky’s office Aleksei Arestovich said that only very serious financial aid from the West could make Ukraine fulfill the Minsk agreements. According to Arestovich, a $10 billion loan could help resolve this issue, as well as a status of a major military ally of the USA.
