Authorities will not support returning to previous retirement age — expert

18.08.2021, Moscow.

The bill returning the previous retirement age, which was submitted to the State Duma of the Russian Federation by the Duma members from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (Russian: KPRF), will not be adopted, because the Russian authorities cannot acknowledge that their decision was a mistake, especially before the coming elections, Vice President of the Experimental Creative Center International Social Foundation Yuri Byaly said on August 18 in a commentary for the Rossa Primavera News Agency.

“KPRF needs to submit the bill, because it needs electorate, which will welcome this very much. This is an attempt to obtain votes of the electorate. Votes, and nothing more,” Byaly explained.

He explained why the unpopular pension reform is unlikely to be revoked today.

“United Russia, which wants to win, which promoted the reform by all means, the government, which promoted the reform by all means, the president, who eventually recognized that the reform was necessary, the Constitutional Court, which recognized that the reform was necessary and that it did not violate the Constitution, ― they all cannot admit that they made a mistake,” the analyst stressed.

He added that any statements of their own mistakes are not typical of the authorities, especially before or during elections.

Previously, Chairman Senior Deputy of the Council of Federation Committee for Social Policy Valery Ryazansky, commenting the bill proposed by the KPRF, said that the retirement age will not be reduced.

In late September, 2018, the Essence of Time movement collected and submitted to the president one million of live signatures of the citizens of Russia against the pension reform.
