The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a factor of rapprochement between Russia and Germany, and this is the worst nightmare for the US and UK, said the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on August 5 on the Tema program on the Donetsk Union TV channel.
“The greatest danger, a nightmare for the UK and for a part of the US elites is any rapprochement between Germany and Russia, and the Nord Stream gas pipeline represents that,” said the political scientist.
Friendship with Germany is one of the priorities in foreign policy for US President Joe Biden; it’s the favorite page for the US Democratic Party in their playbook, noted the expert. In addition, the US leader needs Europe, which is controlled by Germany, to “distance itself somehow away from China.” But Europe does not want it, since it has a sweet deal with China.
Therefore, Biden is prepared to make many concessions to Germany, but only if its leadership accepts his policies on key issues, believes the political scientist. And clueless Ukraine is interfering in this game, which constantly becomes more complicated, and demanding to secure its interests using blackmail.
“Every time when Ukrainians wish to influence US congressmen regarding the need to stop the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and they do it all the time, claiming that they see it better than others, believe me; every time Biden and the Germans realize that something is getting in the way in this game, they immediately grow suspicious of Ukrainian mischief,” noted Kurginyan.
The expert draws attention to the fact that new issues and players keep entering the game, and controversies of the current situation are growing. Therefore, the new “Crimean Platform” initiative promoted by Kiev, and built to resist Russia, is of little interest to Western countries.
“Then, there are these Hungarians who are growing tense for their own reasons, and so on and so forth. It turns out that these high-browed, well-groomed Ukrainian intellectuals failed to see the forest behind the trees in the big political game. And this grand political game is continually becoming more complicated, and this “Crimean Platform” plays a purely secondary role here. Simply secondary,” emphasized Kurginyan.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is 99% ready, at the moment. Due to the fact that its construction is almost complete, the Ukrainian authorities have stepped up their initiatives and demanded that the US and Germany ensure further transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory.
On July 21, the US and Germany released an agreement on the Russian gas pipeline. According to the document, Washington refuses to impose sanctions against the European participants in the project. In return, Germany promises to influence Russia, up to and including sanctions, if Moscow starts using the pipeline as a geopolitical instrument. The sides also intend to demand that Russia extends the contract on gas transit through Ukraine.
The Crimean Platform initiative is to be held in August, 2021. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky initiated this new negotiations platform in February 2021. Its goal, as declared by Ukraine, is to observe human rights on the peninsula and the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who is openly gay, will be representing the US at this summit. It creates problems for participation to countries with a sharply negative attitude towards the LGBT movement.
