Russia waits for USA and Ukraine to revise their positions on Nazism

29.07.2021, Moscow.

Russia hopes that the USA and Ukraine will revise their position regarding the annual UN General Assembly resolution against glorification of Nazism. To date, these are the only two countries that have been against the resolution, according to a statement of the Russian Embassy in Washington published on Twitter on July 29.

Every year Russia submits this resolution to the UN GA. In 2020, the General Assembly adopted it with a majority of votes, but Ukraine and the USA were against it.

“Russia condemns any forms of race discrimination. We submit the annual resolution to the UN GA ‘Combating glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism.’ Only the USA and Ukraine oppose it. Hopefully, they will revise their position,” the statement reads.

The resolution recommends countries to take appropriate legal and educational measures in order to prevent any revision of the outcome of World War Two and denying crimes against humanity committed by Nazis during the war.

The resolution also condemns any glorification and promotion of Nazism, including property abuse with applying pro-Nazi graffiti and images, including on memorials to the victims of World War Two.
