Putin does not think that the problem of the disintegration of the USSR has been permanently determined, political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan assumed on July 15 on the Tema program on the Union channel.
“In my opinion, Putin actually believes that the problem of the disintegration and reassembling [of the USSR] is not as straightforward as when it has to be discussed in a politically correct manner, like ‘well, it happened, and that’s it,’” the political scientist said.
Kurginyan explained that the disintegration of the USSR was illegitimate; therefore, its reunion can return to the geopolitical agenda sooner or later.
“Disintegration can well be followed by re-integration, because the disintegration was absolutely artificial and illegitimate. Therefore, any speculation that the collapse is now a constant of our political life to maintain forever is not quite convincing, I think,” the political scientist stressed.
On July 12 on the Kremlin website, Vladimir Putin’s article “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians” was published, in which he, in particular, analyzes the reasons why Russians and Ukrainians separated. In the article, the president noted that the West has been striving to separate our people for a long time.
According to Putin, when the USSR collapsed, many in Russia and Ukraine believed that tight cultural, spiritual, and economic ties would definitely maintain along with the unity of the people, which have always perceived themselves as one people; however, a different scenario took place.
“Russians in Ukraine are being forced not only to deny their roots, generations of their ancestors but also to believe that Russia is their enemy,” the president noted.
However, Russia will not be Ukraine’s enemy, Vladimir Putin stressed. “Together we have always been and will be many times stronger and more successful. For we are one people,” he expressed his position in the end of the article.
