The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force struck against the Islamists’ positions in the Syrian desert, a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s source in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) informed on July 19.
“The Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force went on a sortie 20 times in the areas where the ISIL (organization banned in Russia) are located in the Syrian desert,” the source said. The aircraft flew over the territory extending from the eastern part of the Homs desert area to the Raqqa desert.
A military operation is underway in the Syrian desert to eliminate underground cells of ISIL (organization banned in Russia). The Syrian army, allied government armed formations, and Russian Air Force aviation are taking part in the military action.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry as of May this year, 338 terrorists were liquidated in the desert as a result of the operation. A large number of weapons and ammunition were found in their caves and shelters.
