Russian Aerospace Forces help Syrian military repel an Islamist attack

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unit repulsed an attack of ISIL (organization banned in Russia) militants in the Rasafa Desert on July 13, a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s source in Syria informed.

“The SAA unit repulsed an attack by ISIL terrorists (organization banned in Russia) on military facilities and strongholds in the Rasafa Desert,” the source reported.

The attack resulted in the elimination of ten Islamists and four motorcycles used by the attackers. The Syrian army lost three soldiers and five others were wounded.

According to some reports, Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft were in the air to repel the militants’ attack.

A military operation is underway in the Syrian desert to eliminate underground cells of Islamists. The operation involves forces of the Syrian army, allied government armed formations, and Russian Aerospace Forces aviation.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, as of May this year, 338 ISIL terrorists (organization banned in Russia) were eliminated as a result of the operation in the desert. Large quantities of weapons and ammunition were found in their caves and hiding places.
