Kurginyan: Cold War is underway, but Russia is not ready for it

04.07.2021, Moscow.

Russia is not capable of waging a cold war with the United States due to the absence of a comparable ideological position and economic power, the political analyst and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on July 1 in the program Theme on the Donetsk Union TV channel.

The two powers should take ideological stances and collide them – this is the first point. The second: the country that wages the cold war must be the second country in the world, it must be a superpower. It cannot be the sixth, fifth, seventh – it can be the second,” Kurginyan is sure of this.

In his opinion, only a country “filled in from the top to the bottom with the ideology” can challenge a power like the United States of America, so “in the narrow sense of the word, the Cold War is a conflict between two irreconcilable ideologies“. Russia managed to reach this level of confrontation with the United States only during the existence of the Soviet Union, while in a broad sense the confrontation with the West persisted at all times, Kurginyan stressed.

At present, the question of whether Russia has the potential and the ideology to take up this position again in the narrow sense of the Cold War, that is, the war of ideas, is very serious. Because the Americans have taken this position,” said the political analyst.

The leader of the Essence of Time explained that the United States, considering itself an outpost of democracy, has declared war on authoritarian systems which have allegedly strengthened in Russia and China.

During the Direct line conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia’s defense capabilities have surpassed those of the US in a number of indicators. Nevertheless, the availability of advanced weapons in the USSR did not prevent Western countries from winning the Cold War by diplomatic and other means.
