Kurginyan: The incident with the warship in the Black Sea exposes a conflict in the British establishment

02.07.2021, Moscow.

The British warship’s provocation in the Black Sea and the events that followed showed that certain political intrigues are taking place within the British establishment, said political scientist, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on July 1 on the Topic program on the Donetsk Union channel.

The way it all unfolded suggests that there were certain intrigues taking place inside this British establishment itself; that someone was digging a hole for the Minister of Defense,” noted Sergey Kurginyan, pointing to several strange facts tooking place in connection with the incident coverage in the UK media.

For some reason, there was a BBC representative on board of the UK warship, who immediately, so to speak, reported about the violation,” stressed the political scientist. – Instead of reporting in the propaganda style such as: ‘we are peaceful, and the Russians are attacking us,’ he started acting differently. Also, the fact that secret documents from the Ministry of Defense were found somewhere on a bench was very moving. Documents such as that are always left on benches by competitors.”

The intentional escalation in confrontation by the UK points to the failure in the strategy of softening diplomacy, which included the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressed Sergey Kurginyan describing the provocation. Therefore, the UK switched to using direct military confrontation. “The UK started to intensify the anti-Russian policy in the West, becoming its flagship,” said the political scientist.

According to the expert, there is nothing good for Russia to expect from this because the UK “assumed the leading role in Ukraine’s militarization and so on” and stepped up the work in the Eastern Partnership. “All these events are linked. These classified documents left on the bench, this certain British correspondent on board of a warship, this failed diplomacy in itself, this softening diplomacy, and the UK being the vanguard of gunboat diplomacy,” summed up Kurginyan.

On June 23, the British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Defender violated the Russian maritime border and invaded the Russian territorial waters by about three kilometers near Cape Fiolent in Crimean Peninsula. Russian border patrol ships twice warned the British warship of the violation, after which warning shots were fired along the course of the vessel. After that, the British warship left the territorial waters of Russia. On June 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the Direct Line with the Russian President that the Russian military knew in advance that there would be a provocation, and it was prepared.

In the UK, the Ministry of Defense initially denied the incident, with the Secretary of State for Defense personally announcing it in the parliament. But the BBC journalist on board the destroyer described the incident in detail during his report, putting the British military in an extremely uncomfortable position. A number of think tanks, including the Chatham House, confronted the military for such a misunderstanding, pointing out that the obvious should not be denied, as it undermines the reputation of the defense department.

The Ministry of Defense’ position became even more uncomfortable when documents with a plan for the the destroyer’s route were discovered at a bus stop in city of Kent, which prove the fact of an impending provocation. The department said that an investigation has begun, the senior military officials are involved in the incident, and that perhaps criminal cases will soon be filed.
