The organizers of the Defender incident have been aware of the risks of entering the exclusion zone

The Defender destroyer was deliberately sent to the area, which Russia declared to be an exclusion zone from April 24 to October 31, the military expert, editor of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Aleksey Leonkov said to Rossa Primavera News Agency.

He noted that Russia had notified all the necessary authorities about the establishment of the exclusion zone, so if any weapons were being tested at the time of the incident, an irreparable tragedy could have occurred.

“The ship would have been sunk by some experimental missile,” Leonkov said.

He recalled an incident that occurred in 1982 near the Falkland Islands. The British then declared a 200-mile zone around the islands the Total Exclusion Zone and warned that ships entering there would be sunk.

“As a result, an Argentine cruiser was sunk by a British submarine. And the British thought they were right,” he said.

In addition, the expert recalled that in 2015, the Russian Su-24 was shot down already outside the Turkish airspace after being there for 6 seconds. At that time, many were screaming that Turkey had the right to defend itself.

Leonkov pointed out that the British ship was in our territorial waters for thirty minutes. “Russia could have used the right of defense three hundred times and stop that ship,” he added.
