Kurginyan explains Russia's active negotiations at Petersburg International Economic Forum mean

10.06.2021, Moscow.

Active contacts at the Petersburg International Economic Forum (PIEF) do not mean that political relations between the West and Russia are improving, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on June 4 on the air of the Tema program on the Union channel.

He stressed that before World War I, relations between the European countries also were good, but they failed to save Europe from war.

“Economic relations between the countries had never been as active as before World War I. It was an upsurge of improving economic relations. This was (as it is now retrospectively called) the first globalization. Indeed, the economies were moving towards each other rapidly. So what?” he explained.

The expert explained that the Russian elite continues its attempts to improve its relations with the West, and that it wants to develop economic relations. This is especially relevant for the elite as any political relations are lacking.

“The economic forum is, first, the flagship of our elites that want to have relations with Europe and the USA; this is the flagship of this path of development of these relations. As there are no political relations, they say let us at least talk about economy,” Kurginyan noted.

The political scientist noted that the forum is a pragmatic event, and that it is natural in a market economy.

“Second, this is a pragmatic event, as the same policy continues, when people want to trade and earn money,” he explained.
