Russian and Syrian Joint Coordination Committees accuses the USA of radicalizing refugees in Syria

The United States is pursuing its geopolitical tasks in Syria at the expense of radicalization of refugees, as follows from a joint statement of the Joint Coordination Committees of the Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) published on May 13.

The situation in the Al-Khol refugee camp under the control of the USA shows the destructiveness of US approaches to resolving the conflict in the SAR. “The camp continues to have a high crime rate, a lack of food, poor water quality, poor medical care, and the presence of several thousand street children whose parents have died or are missing,” the statement reads.

Humanitarian organizations cannot fulfil their commitments and help the refugees in Al-Khol because of security problems. As the Russian and Syrian Joint Coordination Committees noted, people continue to be killed in the camp despite the ongoing operation to identify terrorist cells.

The statement reads that during the operation, a number of social infrastructure facilities in the camp failed, but without specifying which ones. These factors exacerbate social and inter-ethnic tensions among refugees, contributing to their further radicalizing, the document reads.

“All this demonstrates how the United States solves geopolitical problems that have nothing to do with restoring peaceful life in Syria and the Middle East region as a whole,” Russian and Syrian Joint Coordination Committees stressed in its statement.

At the end of March, the US-backed Kurdish units of the Syrian Democratic Forces conducted an operation in the Al-Khol refugee camp in Syria against the militants of ISIL (organization banned in Russia) in the camp. As a result, they captured several dozen people, some of whom were then transferred to US bases in Syria.
