Kurginyan explains why the Soviet past is being demonized

The beneficiaries of the USSR’s collapse find it necessary to demonize all the achievements of the USSR in order to justify the great power’s collapse, so that its citizens wouldn’t wish to bring such a country back, said political scientist, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in his public address celebrating the Victory Day on May 9.

Historically, Russia has never been as powerful as it was after 1945, believes the political scientist. It was a great power with a population over 300 million people, and if we take the periphery, then over 500 million people.

In addition, other world powers such as India were friendly to the USSR. Communist China at a certain point became distant from Russia, but this could have been avoided.

According to the political scientist, the opponents of communism and the USSR needed to somehow tarnish its obvious achievements, so that no one could say:“Listen! We had a much larger population! Our economy was the second largest! Our moral climate was different! Our education was different! We had a different scale of achievements in science and technology! And why, in fact, have we given up all this – what for? “

It turns out that all this was done only for the sake of having ”a greater selection of lingerie on the shelves in our department stores” or for the sake of “someone to enjoy excesses and an indescribable wealth, while others were howling in poverty.

It is necessary [for the beneficiaries of the USSR’s disintegration] to demonize the past in such a way that people would say that, even if the Western enemy played along during the collapse, the most important thing is never to bring back anything resembling the Soviet past,” concluded Kurginyan.
