Kurginyan: We are in a pre-war situation and have been appointed the aggressor

20.04.2021, Moscow.

Russia is in a pre-war situation, it has been appointed an aggressor in advance, and it has to be ready to act, the leader of the Essence of Time movement said on April 18 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Russia One channel.

“The OSCE is reporting as much as a thousand strikes on Donetsk! A thousand! ‘The menacing Russian hand is reaching for the Ukrainian throat’ ― I cannot understand this. Who is carrying out the strikes? Where are civilians being killed?” Kurginyan wonders.

The political scientist expressed confidence that the political and military situation that is unfolding around Russia will present it as an aggressor whatever it does or refrains from doing.

“Whatever we do, even if we are perfectly peaceful wearing white robes and carrying white flowers in our hands and singing some ‘happy birthday to you,’ in any event they will say that we are terrible bloody aggressors with hands covered with blood, that our leaders are killers, and the other side is saving the world fighting against the aggressor,” the statesman believes.

Kurginyan stresses that Russia “is doing everything it can to avoid this frontal conflict,” but “they continue forcing it upon us.”

The political scientist’s vision of the current situation is as follows, “We cannot avoid being the aggressor even if our peacefulness is unlimited… We will be labeled aggressor in any event simply because that’s what they want <…> We can only be a weak aggressor or a strong aggressor.”

Kurginyan calls the country’s authorities for decisive actions in order to obtain at least some benefit from the current situation.

“In what additional spots will this instability be escalated, and how prepared will we be to face it domestically? Will we have enough time to regroup ourselves? How decisively, reasonably, and precisely will we act to avoid a situation when everything negative is forced upon us to be received in full, while nothing positive is gained?” the Russian civic leader wonders.

On April 14, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Heidi Grau commenting the increased military activity in Donbass said that “according to the SMM, the number of violations recorded over the past two weeks has reached its highest level this year and was three times higher than over the same period before.” The OSCE representative traditionally refrained form providing any detail regarding who was responsible for this situation.
