Political scientist: USSR won in space due to organizational efficiency

12.04.2021, Moscow.

The Soviet Union defeated the USA in space due to its greater efficiency in strategic vision, management and organization. Dmitry Yevstafyev, political scientist, professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and candidate of political sciences, said this on April 12 on the Vesti FM radio.

“Cosmonautics Day is really a very significant date and a significant day for us. This is one of those days that for every person in our country, if he or she is a supporter of our statehood, is a very important starting point,” the political scientist said.

We won, he explained, due to “greater organizational efficiency, due to management efficiency, and due to the efficiency of strategic vision” that Stalin and Beria had put into the basis of the strategic industries system.

And as soon as the momentum of organizational efficiency burned out – around 1964 and 1965, the professor added – we began to lose in both space and industry. Because the system of ensuring high executive and organizational efficiency that had been established after the Great Patriotic War, when we had to ensure a technological breakthrough, began to be destroyed due to the games of elite and ill-conceived chaotic decisions, he noted.

“But this commemorative date is ours, the first cosmonaut is ours. And it is the symbol that should not only lead us forward but also teach us how victories are achieved. Victories are always achieved not only by ingenious insights, the genius of individuals and breakthroughs, they are always achieved by tough – and sometimes severe! – discipline in setting goals and achieving them,” concluded Yevstafyev.

On April 10, historian Nikolai Smirnov called the spiritual essence of the Day of Cosmonautics the ascension of human individuality to the sky.
