Kurginyan: Armenia can avoid genocide if becomes like 1960s Israel

22.03.2021, Aleksandrovskoye.

Armenia must become a powerful and mobilized state if it wants to survive and avoid a repeat genocide, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan told the Armenian 24TV channel on March 18.

To survive, Armenia must adopt a consistent anti-Turkish position, stated the political scientist, “Armenia knows what will happen if it does not take this position. It knows very well what will happen. It knows what genocide is. And it knows that it will be repeated.

If Armenia wants to live, it should “awaken” and start building a new state. “The task for Armenian society is to build a mobilized Armenia, national, powerful, cleansed of all this filth like Pashinian, among others. It needs to be like the Israel of the 1960s in the Transcaucasus,” Kurginyan said.

In order to build a state of a new quality, Armenia should tighten its belts and create a powerful army, like it had never dreamed of before, as well as a new mobilization ideology. The political scientist wonders whether Armenia is ready to go down the anti-Turkish path, to start building its own “Israel,” given that it does not have the kind of support that Israel had, “Is it ready to give up its sweet consumerist dreams? Forget of all that ‘dolma’ stuff? Is it ready to awaken to a new condition?”

According to the expert Armenia’s awakening is the key issue. All other countries’, including Russia’s, attitude towards Armenia depends on the answer to this question. Kurginyan said that witnesses of the Armenian events have “two feelings: deep compassion for the Armenian boys and the Armenian people in general and bitter astonishment at the condition of Armenian society.”

The Armenian tragedy has not yet led to deep changes in the society, the political analyst stressed: “We do not see its [Armenian society’s] grief that leads to transformation into national solidarity, its grief that raises the flag of real struggle“.

Kurginyan is certain that sooner or later an anti-Turkish vector of the Russian position will emerge. It will emerge when Turkey’s attempts to destabilize Crimea, to separate it from Russia, become obvious. “Then the interest in a powerful national Armenia, which can be an outpost of Russia in the Transcaucasus, will be very high. Then everything will change radically,” he noted.

Butwhereisthis[powerful]Armenia? It’s needed not for Russia, not to please Russia. It is needed for national survival,” summed up the leader of the Essence of Time.

On September 27, 2020, hostilities began on the border of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. The clashes lasted 44 days and took thousands of lives on both sides, including civilians.

On November 10, 2020, a trilateral statement was signed between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, under the terms of which combat actions were stopped and part of the Karabakh territories were handed over to Baku’s control. Russian peacekeepers were also deployed in the conflict zone.
