The weakening of the Armenian people’s spirit and its myopia regarding Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resembles the Russian authorities’ reluctance to see explosive and dangerous processes for Russia in the Middle East, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on March 18 in an interview to the 24 TV Armenian TV channel.
Kurginyan noted that Armenia, which is imbued with the spirit of peddling, has embarked on a pro-Western path. Having abandoned its national identity, Armenia made a bet on Pashinyan. According to the political scientist, Russia is shooting itself in the foot with its reluctance to recognize the mounting Islamist threat on the southern borders and Turkey’s role in it.
“I believe that everything is even more frightening. This transfer of ISIS troops (organization banned in Russia) to Libya, its ties with the Muslim Brotherhood (organization banned in Russia), it all looks as a prelude before setting the world on fire. Does noonesee this?” said Kurginyan.
According to him, the fact alone that 12 thousand militants have been transferred to Armenia should cause bewilderment in the Russian foreign policy circles and entail decisive actions.
The leader of the Essence of Time movement continued: “Does no one understand that trained and armed Islamists are being given heavy weapons? Does no one understand that Egypt is filled with the Muslim Brotherhood (organization banned in Russia) and ready to explode at any moment? Is it not clear what will happen in Mali, Sudan and other parts of the world? Does no one understand how the fire will spread through the Middle East? What do these ties with Pakistan mean? What does the new Turkish-Japanese rapprochement mean? And the brazen statements by Japanese politicians regarding Russia, which used to be quite restrained, at least when it comes to our domestic policy?”
Kurginyan stressed that there is a very serious and dangerous game in the Middle East, which is aimed to destabilize and radicalize the whole region. He believes that Turkey will soon demonstrate its anti-Russian posture.
“Do they not see this? No, they do not. Your people did not see Pashinyan, and our people do not see this. And what can I do? I can only tell the truth. The voice of one crying in the wilderness. But the Armenian public always wants to see the hand of some gray cardinals,” added the expert.
The political scientist said that he would be happy to “go about his business”, but he cannot focus on personal affairs when Russian interests are at stake.
“It is impossible, because the state is in mortal danger. I understand that I will not be able to defend my own interests if the state dies. Therefore, I will defend it according to what I personally believe and have always believed,” explained Kurginyan.
