The Ukrainian authorities will begin military operations after they make their final decision to avoid fulfilling the Minsk Agreements, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on March 9 on the Topic program on the air of the Donetsk Union channel.
The political scientist reminded that Ukraine signed the Minsk Agreements in February 2015 when it was in a desperate situation, and it never planned to fulfill them. He believes that the “diplomatic game” for Russia now is to bring the Ukrainian authorities “to the edge” of either fulfilling the Minsk Agreements or rejecting them permanently.
“The Ukrainians are doing a third thing, they are blurring the situation, and they are trying to sell this blurry picture, and trying to push the Westernists to do the same thing. However, I cannot see any way for them to reject the Minsk Agreements as long as Russia’s policy is at least somewhat reasonable,” Kurginyan indicated.
The analyst believes that Donbass is within the scope of Russia’s national interests, and this is clear even to liberal politicians. Any political force which publicly confronts Donbass will fail in the Russian elections.
“Imagine that Ukraine either makes certain steps that directly result from the Minsk Agreements, i.e. rearrangement of its state, or rejects the agreements. Both options are extremely important and interesting to Russia and Donbass,” Kurginyan explained.
The leader of Essence of Time believes that it is in Russia’s interests to quickly bring the Ukrainian authorities to the edge of making their decision whether or not to fulfill the Minsk Agreements. Meanwhile, Donbass will keep moving away from Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian authorities lost everything the moment when they signed the Minsk Agreements under pressure, and now they have no way out whatever they do. The only thing they can do now is begin a military operation against Donbass under any pretense. It is clear how this will end,” Sergey Kurginyan concluded.
