Kurginyan: West has already decided to divide Russia

09.02.2021, Donetsk.

Russian patriotic forces can only be anti-Western, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on February 5 in an interview to the Union channel.

Speaking about the persistent attempts by Russian elites to unite with the West, Sergey Kurginyan noted, “With Biden, the West consisting of the USA and its NATO satellites, I mean all the NATO countries, will work to destroy Russia. They have already made their decision that they do not need any Russia at all, even if it were absolutely obedient and reduced. They only need it dead and divided.”

The political scientist reminded that in the past, members of the Russian elite repeatedly proposed separation of the republics of Northern Caucasus and other territories as a way to establish good relations with the West.

“Our pro-Western form of statehood, or statism, has failed. It has exhausted its potential in general, and especially in the Biden period. It is time for us to put an end to it,” the analyst stressed.

At the same time, Kurginyan noted that the Russian elite can hardly pursue any patriotic policy because of its long-term dependence on the West.

“We must clearly say that any pro-Western forces are anti-patriotic, while any patriotic forces are anti-Western either de-facto or in theory. De facto means that they say, ‘Yes, probably we could join on good conditions, but we are not welcome there, and there is nothing to join,’ while in theory means, ‘And we do not need it. We are different,’” the political scientist explained.

According to Sergey Kurginyan, Russia’s difference from the West and specifics of its relations with the West are fundamental.

“We are absolutely different in our historical essence. As I have already said several times, we are successors to the Byzantine Empire, i.e. the Greek civilization, while what we call the West is the successor to Rome,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained.

In the end of October 2020, then US presidential candidate Joe Biden called Russia “the greatest current threat to the US,” while characterizing China just as the largest competitor to the US. In December, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave a similar assessment.

On February 4, Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the US administration was planning to hold Russia accountable for a range of malign activities.
