Blogger Alexei Navalny is a villain for anti-Western youth in Russia, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time social movement Sergey Kurginyan said in an interview with Vladimir Solovyov on the SolovyovLive YouTube channel on January 23.
In Kurginyan’s opinion, Navalny has no social support base. And certainly, the youth, who can be “different” cannot be this base, Kurginyan noted.
“For anti-Western youth, Navalny is the ultimate villain,” the political scientist explained. These young people will never forget how Merkel and others babied Navalny, Kurginyan added.
On January 23, unauthorized rallies in support of opposition figure Alexei Navalny were held in Moscow and a number of other Russian cities. Numerous attacks on members of the law enforcement agencies were reported to occur during the protests. According to preliminary reports, protesters gouged out the eye of an FSB operative.
Blogger Alexei Navalny returned to Russia from Germany on January 17 and was detained by law enforcement agencies at Sheremetyevo airport. Later, a court sentenced the opposition activist to 30 days in jail. He was suspected of violating his suspended sentence. On 2 February, his suspended sentence was replaced with a prison sentence.
