Kurginyan speaks on the two concepts of immunity and the argument between them

04.02.2021, Moscow.

The concepts of immunity developed by Ilya Mechnikov and Paul Ehrlich were achievements of the early 20th century and were great breakthroughs in science, but science did not stop there and the dispute between these concepts generated new discoveries important for resolving today’s coronavirus problem, philosopher, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said in the latest broadcast of his analytical program The Meaning of the Game, released on February 3 on YouTube channel.

“But in order to resolve it, one must understand what these antibodies are, what types exist. When their impact is salutary and when it is detrimental. One has to understand all of this. And I am convinced that such understanding is only possible, if we are not talking about a highly specialized expert, but about a systems scientist, only if we consider the background of the issue,” the analyst explained.

In order to simultaneously consider everything related to antibodies and discuss what can be used besides these antibodies, it is necessary to seriously consider the history of this issue, “to travel the whole way with humanity,” from Mechnikov onward, through all the major milestones, noted Sergey Kurinyan.

He explains that the outstanding German scientist Paul Ehrlich developed the second concept of immunity.

In his program, Sergey Kurginyan also briefly explains the essence of each concept.

“But both Mechnikov’s concept and Ehrlich’s concept are achievements of the early 20th century. More than one century separates us from these remarkable achievements, and during this time a multitude of things have changed in immunology, and in microbiology, and in molecular biology, which did not exist at that time, in virology, which did not exist at that time,” the analyst further explains.

At the same time, information from these concepts is often presented at the level of the time when they were created without any indication that there was progress in medicine, he adds.

Sergey Kurginyan explains further that the disputes between the concepts of Mechnikov and Ehrlich (between cell-mediated or phagocytic and humoral immunity) were very fierce in the years that followed.

“I would like the viewer of this program to perceive the struggle for understanding the nature of immunity, and thus for saving people [from COVID-19], not as the boring and incomprehensible words of faceless intellectuals, but as a fascinating and great human tragedy, filled with feats and passions for truth,” the political scientist explained.
