Kurginyan: “They are scared to death.” Ukraine's view of the Minsk agreements

02.02.2021, Donetsk.

The Ukrainian authorities are scared to death of the consequences that would arise if Ukraine fulfills the Minsk agreements, because their implementation would result in a confederation instead of the current Ukrainian state, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on the Politkuhnya program on the Union Donetsk channel.

“The Minsk agreements would make Ukraine a confederation, period. Under the Minsk agreements, Ukraine must become a confederation,” the expert stressed.

However, Ukraine cannot develop confederate relations with Donbass alone. This process will have to encompass other regions as well. Therefore, fulfillment of the Minsk agreements would require a radical revision of the current Ukrainian constitution, which means that the Ukrainian authorities will never agree to fulfill the agreements, the political scientist explained.

“If they fulfilled this, Donbass would obtain its own opportunities in the great game. I very well understand that ordinary people in Donbass are not interested in this great game. They want a quiet life, stability, and guarantees,” Kurginyan noted.

However, Ukraine cannot stop playing the game, and the interest of the people in Donbass is that Russia be the winner. Fulfillment of the Minsk agreements would be “a fantastic victory in the game over Ukraine,” because their implementation would make the Ukrainian state absolutely different. After Donbass obtains special rights, other regions like Odessa or Lvov would immediately demand the same. This is something the current Ukrainian authorities would definitely reject.

“This will immediately result in a certain disagreement. They are not prepared for this, and they are scared of it to death. There are scared of the Minsk agreements more than anything else,” Kurginyan stressed.
