Ukrainian regional authorities honor the memory of Volhynia massacre butcher

Ugnyov town in the Lvov region of Ukraine celebrated the 110th anniversary since the birthday of the war criminal, colonel of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UIA, organization banned in Russia) Miroslav Onishkevich on January 26, the press service of the Lvov regional administration reports.

According to the press service, the representatives of regional authorities attended the celebration: the head of the department of internal and information policy Andrey Kovalsky, the chairman of the permanent commission on culture, information policy Svyatoslav Sheremet, as well as other officials and public members.

“Those present visited the Onishkevich brothers’ school in Ugnyovsk, where they talked to students about the contribution of the combat leader Miroslav Onishkevich to the establishment of Ukrainian statehood,” the press service noted.

Participants of the event together with students and teachers also visited the house where the war criminal lived and laid flowers to the memorial plaque installed in his honor.

Under the command of Miroslav Onishkevich (1911-1950), UIA gangs (organization banned Russia) exterminated the Poles in Tarnoshin (Poland) in 1943. After World War II, Onishkevich tried to flee from justice in western Poland, but was caught by police in 1948 and executed by sentence.
