Kurginyan: Russia must "reinvent the wheel," or it will fall fatally behind

23.01.2021, Moscow.

Russia can survive only under extreme conditions, through mobilization, said political analyst, leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in an interview with Business Online published on January 17.

He noted that he supports some of the Russian government’s foreign policy decisions – the reunification with Crimea, amendments to the Russian Constitution, the president’s statement on the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact – but he cannot support the current political mainstream. “I just don’t believe we can fit into the global trend. I do not believe in anything but in the survival of Russia under extreme conditions on the basis of mobilization,” the political scientist emphasized.

It’s not just that this global trend is getting worse every day. The chosen approach is fundamentally wrong.

“There is a leader – one can never catch up the leader. You either have to take another path, or you have to fall behind. Catching up always means lagging behind. Russia goes down the path of catching-up development – and it is not even on the path to implementing technologies for import substitution. It follows the path that was prescribed to it when it was said that it will enter the Western world, that it will take its cues from it,” explained the political scientist.

But there is no place for Russia in this world, he added. Powerful forces are pushing the entire world towards complete dehumanization. Russia can resist this only if it proposes an alternative megatrend and announces an internal ideological mobilization, the analyst noted.

“The fact is that we have given away our ‘birthright’ and work according to their instructions… under the slogan ‘Don’t reinvent the wheel.’ But the era has come when all you can do is reinvent the wheel, because everything else is the very enemy of humanity,” Kurginyan declared.

The technocentric development that the whole world is following is destructive, especially for Russia, the analyst noted. “The core of development should be Man, not the machine… We have the foundation for this – and in this respect Russia has no rivals in the world. Russia’s role in the division of labor is not oil, gas, or even the army. Russia’s role is the new word. The others are constantly waiting for it. And they are waiting for it now,” Kurginyan concluded.
