Russian political scientist: US Golden Age has nothing to do with liberalism

15.01.2021, Moscow.

The US economic growth has nothing to do with liberalism, political scientist Sergey Mikheev said on January 15 on the air of Vesti FM.

According to Mikheev, in the Western world, material wealth is the main factor of success. Mikheev suggests that one should read Max Weber’s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism with its profound belief that you are agreeable to God when you have much money; this is an essential feature of the Western man, on which, to certain extent, the Western economic success is based. He added that the protestant ethic does not exist in the West any longer, but it used to be in its roots.

“The US Golden Age stemmed from colonization and slave traffic, because slave traffic gave a very serious pulse to the US economy. The third factor was the two world wars in Europe, on which the US earned lots of money, and then it was very effective in forcing its currency to the world,” Mikheev said.
