There is a deep and growing split in the American society, and President Trump’s actions could lead to an explosion. Expert in US domestic policy and history of the US intelligence services, doctor of historical science Yaroslav Levin expressed this opinion on January 7 in the conversation with Rossa Primavera News Agency.
Levin called the current situation with the transfer of power in the United States “absolutely unique” and “unprecedented.”
“This is the first time in the history of the United States when a procedure for the transfer of power is violated, this has never happened before,” he said.
According to Levin, Trump has a broad social basis even in the current political crisis, “It’s actually all conservative circles, all rural people, all ordinary working people, all malcontents… And it was evident even in these riots… Hillary Clinton made very contemptuous statements about these people by calling them white trash. And it’s not really white trash, it’s an ordinary American.”
Also, Trump has serious support in the cities as well. His supporters are people who do not accept “what has been going on throughout the entire Obama presidency, these changes that have been happening in society and in the culture.”
The split in American society continues to deepen. The situation is “close to a cold civil war at the moment,” but Trump is “playing with fire next to powder kegs,” the researcher said.
Nevertheless, as the most likely scenario of events, Levin sees a decrease in domestic political escalation, when Trump “does calm down and ensure a transition of power.” In such an outcome, the US leader could subsequently be criminally prosecuted.
