Kurginyan: Conflict of three forces will determine Ukraine’s future

05.01.2021, Moscow.

Political scientist, social activist and crisis spots expert Sergey Kurginyan described the parameters of the future political struggle after the President of Ukraine is removed from power in his interview to the Union Donetsk TV channel of December 28 .

“Zelensky will be overthrown. He will be overthrown, leaving behind an orphaned center, which is somewhat humiliated by the fact that it stood behind Zelensky. Its counterparts will be the right-wing actors like Poroshenko, Timoshenko etc., and quite a stagnant and very reluctantly pro-Russian opposition that is afraid of itself. But the latter will become stronger with changing public opinion,” Sergey Kurginyan believes.

The political scientist described the process when, due to a split political center, some part of the population will accept the ex-president of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko with his rhetoric of strong confrontation with the people of Donbass. Another part will reject him, and no one knows where it will shift.

“It [this part of the population ― Rossa Primavera News Agency] is insulted and humiliated by its own choice [by having elected Zelensky as president of Ukraine ― Rossa Primavera News Agency]. It lacks respect for itself. What decision will it make? This will determine the fate of Ukraine. The third actor will be the pro-Russian part, which will definitely become stronger,” the expert stressed.

And then these three forces ― the confused center, the pro-Russian part, and the right-wing faction ― will come into conflict, Kurginyan believes.

“If it comes to a civil war, to a certain de-centralization, this will be one process. Another option is a right-wing dictatorship. And a right-wing dictatorship immediately means war,” Sergey Kurginyan concluded.
