Political scientist: Ukrainians’ common sense could prevent inevitable war

01.01.2020, Moscow.

A new war in Ukraine can only be stopped by forces with at least a basic common sense understanding of what the end would be, political scientist and expert on crisis analysis Sergey Kurginyan said on December 28 on the Donetsk TK Union channel.

According to Sergey Kurginyan, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is gradually losing power, which pushes him towards a “bloody chimera” ― initiating a new war.

This is fueled not only by centrifugal forces in Ukrainian regions, but also by the election of Joe Biden in the USA, who is a partner of the former Ukrainian president Pyotr Poroshenko, whom Zelensky promised to “take down” when he ran for election.

According to the political scientist, the escalating political crisis, economic crisis, social crisis, and ideological crisis together lead to “war as the only chance for the ruling group to escape.”

Sergey Kurginyan believes that the war can still be avoided.

“Whether it will start or not depends on whether there are any forces with at last basic common sense understanding what the end would be, or whether these forces will step aside,” the analyst stressed.

At a meeting between Vladimir Zelensky and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan the two presidents made a joint statement that they will make efforts aimed at “de-occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol as well as regaining Ukrainian control over certain regions of the Donetsk and the Lugansk regions of Ukraine.”
