The Ukrainian army fired white phosphorous shells on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said the spokesman of the DPR People’s Militia (DPR PM) Eduard Basurin said on December 30 during a briefing.
“Over two days, militants of the 36 Brigade’s Marine battalion of the Ukrainian army fired 113 shells, of which 12 were white phosphorous shells, from their positions located in Vodyane village in the direction of Leninskoye and Kominternovo,” Basurin said.
The spokesman stressed that the shelling of the area near Leninskoye using white phosphorous munitions was recorded by CCTV. At the briefing Basurin demonstrated the relevant camera footage.
According to Basurin, the Ukrainian army used white phosphorous munitions for the first time since 2019.
Also, the DPR PM representative said, “It has been established that a group of special forces ‘Medevedi’ of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces headed by Kravtsov continues to carry out tasks at the positions near Vodyanoye, from where the fire has come.”
Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons prohibits the use of white phosphorous munitions.
The Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky expressed confidence that by the end of his presidential term, the conflict in Donbass will be solved.
In an interview with the Donetsk TK Union TV channel on December 28, the political scientist Sergey Kurginyan explained the reasons pushing Zelensky to escalate the conflict in Donbass, “He is preparing this not because he needs it or he is still out for blood, but because he proved to be not only a shameful worthless individual, but also a power-hungry man. So he wants to keep himself in power somehow. And so does some gang, which has placed its bet on him. He can’t stay in the political peace process.”
