Kurginyan: The world is moving towards a global disaster launched by the fall of the USSR

10.12.2020, Moscow.

The disintegration of the USSR resulted in numerous deaths across and the post-Soviet territory; but most importantly, alternative development for the humanity was denounced, and the world began a drift towards insanity, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time social political movement Sergey Kurginyan said on December 8 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.

Discussing the anniversary of the Belovezha Accords of December 8, 1991, which dissolved the USSR, Kurginyan reminded the words of Vladimir Putin that the collapse of the USSR was “a geopolitical catastrophe.”

“I would add that, in my point of view, this was an even greater catastrophe, a global one. This was a catastrophe of meanings, practically a religious, i.e. a metaphysical catastrophe. This was a sort of a catastrophe the results of which become increasingly significant with every decade,” Kurginyan stressed.

According to Kurginyan, the Russian people lost the most from the disintegration of the USSR, although they were promised much. The Russians in the ethnic post-Soviet republics found themselves in the position of serfs in certain feudal regions, and then they were expelled from there.

“First of all, tremendous consequences followed in the form of the so-called economic reforms. This was death, this was ‘the Russian cross’ and an astounding number of people dying. At the periphery, huge numbers of people were killed; several hundred thousand were killed in Tajikistan, and no one has ever counted them precisely,” the political scientist reminded.

Further, Kurginyan told the story of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who was a collective farm director when he became witness to atrocities against children, after which he took up arms and went to fight; and he also spoke about the events in Namangan and Fergana, where hoes were used to cut people’s heads off.

“The country became covered in blood; but in addition to this, the world lost an alternative. Whether we think communism is good or bad, it was an alternative. This was a feeling that other ways existed for humanity to develop. Instead, we got a situation with no alternatives,” Kurginyan stressed.

The collapse of the Soviet Union untied the hands of the United States, which can now acts like a gang of highway robbers, and which has entered a phase of madness.

“The entire geopolitical landscape has shifted. We are moving towards a global disaster, and we still do not understand that this disaster began back there in the Belovezha Forest. Was this a mistake? A crime? In historical terms, this was a civic historical sin, in other words something more significant than any crime,” Kurginyan believes.
