Expert comments on Erdoğan's speech in Baku: Erdoğan will continue Turkey's expansion

10.12.2020, Moscow.

The main thing in the speech of Turkish President Recep Erdoğan at the parade in Baku is the admission that he is a follower of Enver Pasha, who called for extending Turkey’s influence beyond its borders, Vladimir Novikov, a senior research fellow of the Institute for Social and Political Studies of the Black Sea-Caspian Sea Region said on December 10 to a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s correspondent.

“The main thing that Erdogan said at the parade in Baku is that he is a Enver Pasha’s follower. Who is he? He is Kemal Atatürk’s main opponent, i.e. this is a person who wanted to expand Turkey,” Novikov noted.

He stressed that “Erdoğan has actually admitted his ideological affinity with Enver Pasha.”

The expert also drew attention that by drawing parallels between the Victory Parade over Nazi Germany and the parade in Baku the Azerbaijani authorities turned the parade into the blasphemous insult.

On December 10, a military parade was held in Baku to celebrate the victory over the defense of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani and Turkish presidents took the parade.

In late September, a military conflict erupted in the region. On November 9, a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In the agreement, the parties promised a complete cessation of hostilities. A Russian peacekeeping contingent is deployed in the region. Armenia undertakes to give Azerbaijan the Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts of Karabakh.
