Westernization of the former Soviet republics is a geopolitical consequence of the collapse of the Soviet Union, political scientist and lecturer at the Law Faculty of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Semenovsky said to a Rossa Primavera News Agency’s correspondent on December 7.

Political destabilization in Kyrgyzstan, the transition to the Latin alphabet in Kazakhstan, as well as the inclusion of Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia and partly Belarus in the sphere of Western influence and values suggest that “the Westernization of our former Soviet republics is underway,” Semenovsky noted. He added that “these are all geopolitical consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union.”

He pointed out that many negative processes in the post-Soviet republics are changing from quantity to quality with a negative meaning for Russia, “Many long-years partners take either a neutral or opposite position to Russia on important issues.”

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, many of the former Soviet republics fell under Western political influence. Some of them have joined the NATO and have adopted hostile policies toward Russia.
