Kurginyan: Russia is waiting for the Armenian people to come to their senses

12.11.2020, Moscow.

It is necessary for Armenian civil society to solve the problem of removing Pashinyan’s group from power, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan noted on November 10 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov program on Russia One channel.

Speaking about Russia’s actions during the escalation of the Karabakh conflict, the political scientist, in particular, said, “If Pashinyan won a victory with our help, then in the next round Armenia would join NATO. We couldn’t support this gang of scoundrels. We have had to show the Armenian people who they are. We did not fight against it. We are just waiting for the Armenian people to finally come to their senses.”

Sergey Kurginyan noted that the question of how Armenian society will respond is the question of Armenia’s existence, “If the Armenian civil society proved to be incapable of responding, then it will simply cease to exist. And then I am asking: why were all these sacrifices made? For the sake of surrendering everything and yourselves? Does the nation pose this question?”

In the political scientist’s opinion, the church as a social force must be more active to help the Armenian citizens.

“I expect the Catholicos to say something else instead of calling for peace, because there was a time when Archbishop Makarios became the head of state [Archbishop Makarios III in 1960 became the first president of the Republic of Cyprus – Rossa Primavera News Agency’s editorial note]. And I am almost absolutely convinced that now, under these circumstances, the Armenian Church should behave in a fundamentally new way. Because any appeals to the military staff mean that this is Pashinyan’s military staff, placed at their positions by themselves,” Kurginyan said.

According to the Essence of Time’s leader, the minimum starting requirement for the Armenian society is removing Pashinyan’s entire political group of from power.

Describing the current issue, Sergey Kurginyan named the tasks that Armenian society needs to solve.

“WhereandonwhomcanhealthyArmeniansocietyrely? How can it find the strength to consolidate itself now and stop the helpless pogrom hysteria, to turn it into a national court for the traitors? Those persons shouldn’t be beaten up by an outraged crowd, they should be sentenced by the corresponding tribunal for wartime treason against their people. Such tasks are now on the agenda,” the political scientist concluded.

On November 9, about 20 opposition parties in Armenia jointly demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister of the Republic Nikol Pashinyan and the government headed by him.

On November 10, immediately after Nikol Pashinyan’s statement about the end of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrender of territories, the protesters broke into the building and wreaked havoc on Pashinyan’s office. In addition, National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan was beaten in the parliament building.
