Armenia and Azerbaijan will begin substantive negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh

Baku and Erevan have decided to start substantive negotiations on Nagorno-Karabakh. The parties’ joint statement was red out by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the video was published on October 10 on the Ministry’s Facebook page.

Lavrov reported that the countries had agreed to a ceasefire, beginning 12:00 on October 10, for the exchange of prisoners of war and other detained persons, and bodies of the dead. The exchange is to be held with the mediation of the Red Cross. The precise terms of the ceasefire will be set later.

Meanwhile, Armenia and Azerbaijan will begin substantive negotiations in order to find an early and peaceful resolution to the conflict. The negotiations will take place under the OSCE Minsk Group’s auspices.

The Moscow talks between the foreign ministers of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh lasted over 10 hours.
