Verkhovna Rada member: The West must return billions taken from Ukraine

29.09.2020, Kiev.

Ukraine can resolve its economic crisis if the West returns the money taken from the country, member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) Andrey Derkach said on September 28 on the air of the 112 Ukraine TV channel.

According to the parliament member, the Western countries were involved in the withdrawal of investment from the country under the guise of reforms. “A total of $13 billion of our money has been removed and now functions under the US jurisdiction,” Derkach said.

Given these amounts, the parliament member believes, it is wrong that Kiev “is begging” for loans from the International Monetary Fund and other financial institutes. “This means that they owe us, not we owe them. We must tell our dear friends that Ukraine is not a cash machine and that they must return our money,” Derkach believes.

He also pointed out Europe’s attitude to Ukraine as a whole. According to the parliament member, the West perceives Ukraine as a colony. It used various means to make Ukraine close its manufacturing industry and open its markets for European goods.
