Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service: USA attempts to incite conflict between the members of Orthodox and Catholic Churches in Belarus

29.09.2020, Moscow.

Interference of the United States into religious life in Belarus is aimed at inciting conflict between the members of Orthodox and Catholic Churches, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin told journalists on September 29, RIA Novosti informed.

Naryshkin said that the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation has reliable data showing that USA representatives are “intruding in the religious situation in Belarus attempting to incite conflict between the representatives of Orthodox and Catholic Churches.”

He mentioned the Vatican’s reserved stance towards the Belarusian events, while the US emissaries, on the contrary, are making efforts to actively involve Catholic priests in anti-government demonstrations.

Naryshkin said that US representatives call on priests of the Roman Catholic Church to openly criticize the Belarusian authorities at a variety of religious events.

The use of religious figures in spreading unrest leading to the overthrow of the government has been very effective in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church priests not only supported the ьaidan with sermons and personal presence, but also often spoke at maidan rallies calling for extremist actions.
