Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service: "Navalny case" is aimed to block the "Nord Stream – 2"

22.09.2020, Moscow.

Western countries’ active participants in the promotion of the so-called Navalny case more and more clearly indicates that it is aimed at “Nord Stream – 2,” said the FIS [Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia – Rossa Primavera News Agency] Director Sergey Naryshkin. The FIS press service informed on September 22.

“Russia FIS registers high activity of some Western countries, which promote the so-called Navalny case. It is becoming more and more cleat that one of the main targets of this campaign is ‘Nord Stream – 2’,” Sergey Naryshkin said.

The FIS Director also frankly explained that “punishing” Russia for Navalny by an attempt to block the gas pipeline, the US is trying to force Europe to use US LNG [liquefied natural gas – Rossa Primavera News Agency]. Thus, there is an example of obvious unfair competition.

“It is extremely important for Washington to achieve the closure of this project, which puts into question the White House plans to increase the supplies of American LNG to Europe,” Naryshkin said.

Naryshkin reminded that US LNG will cost Europeans more than Russian gas and expressed hope that Europeans will act in accordance with their own interests.

“It is believed that the EU countries will not act against the ‘Nord Stream – 2’ according to the principle ‘cut off our noses to spite our faces.’ All the more so since winter is promised to be cold, and significant amounts of gas will be needed,” the IFS Director says ironically.

In connection with Alexei Navalny’s illness, the European Union and the US began to declare the need to freeze the construction of “Nord Stream – 2”.

The doctors in Omsk managed to stabilize Navalny’s condition so that the next day the German doctors were able to transport him to Germany. However, Germany announced that Navalny was poisoned with “Novichok”-type warfare agent without providing the results of tests and demanding explanations from the Russian side.
