The fighters from Poland will not pass? A new commissioner appointed in Brest region

18.09.2020, Minsk.

Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Valery Vakulchik was appointed a new presidential commissioner in Brest region, the press service of President Aleksandr Lukashenko informed on September 17.

Valery Vakulchik was transferred to the office of Secretary of the Security Council on September 3, 2020. Before this appointment, he took up a post of Chairman of Belarusian KGB. He had been the KGB head since 2012.

Brest region is the westernmost region of Belarus. It borders Poland to the west, and Ukraine to the south.

Earlier, the expert statements were voiced that the Polish intelligence was training the militants to destabilize the situation in Belarus.

On September 17, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko announced about the closure of borders with Lithuania and Poland and increasing troop strength at the border with Ukraine.

Editorial comment

A KGB representative with great power and thus with greater presidential confidence has been appointed in the critical region. Considering the closure of the borders and the increase of troop strength, it can be concluded that this would not have been done if the risk of militant redeployment or other actions aimed at destabilising the country had not been so high.

Venezuela is an example of what kind of actions it could be. They include mass arrival of Maidan supporters from the neighboring country, including those ready to break the border, large pro-Maidan festivals and concerts, as well as provocations.
