Venezuela shoots down a US plane carrying drugs

Venezuela shoots down a US plane carrying drugs, Venezuelan Interior Minister Néstor Reverol wrote on September 15 on his Twitter account.

“We are constantly on alert monitoring our airspace to prevent its use for drug trafficking from Colombia, as the world’s largest cocaine producer,” he said.

Néstor Reverol informs that a plane carrying drugs was shot down in Venezuelan airspace. The law allowing to shoot down aircraft carrying drugs in Venezuelan airspace is in force since 2013.

Colombia is one of the main producers of cocaine and heroin in the world. In 2018, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime stated that drug production in Colombia increased by about 31% to almost 1,400 tons per year, the value of produced drugs reaches 2.7 billion dollars in accordance with the local prices, the United States is the main consumer.
