Ukraine agrees to inspect its troops after DPR’s ultimatum

09.09.2020, Lugansk.

The members of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk agreed to inspect together the fortifications of the Ukrainian army near the village of Shumy in the occupied part of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the head of the Russian delegation to the TCG Boris Gryzlov said on September 9 at a briefing with journalists.

According to the head of the delegation, a special meeting of the TCG discussed the violation of the additional measures for ceasefire monitoring committed by the Ukrainian army when it built fortifications in the “grey zone.”

“Representatives of Donbass suggested that a joint inspection should be carried out in the framework of the coordination mechanism agreed on July 22 in order to rectify the violation and resolve the disagreement,” Boris Gryzlov said.

The Russian delegate explained that the inspection is to take place at 2:00 p.m. (Moscow time zone) on September 10. Representatives of Lugansk, Donetsk, and Kiev will inspect the disputed locations together at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Ceasefire and the OSCE mission.

The Ukrainian military from the 35th Brigade used the ceasefire to build combat positions closer to the Seversky Donets ― Donbass water supply line that supplies potable water to villages of Donbass.

The DPR government contacted OSCE representatives on August 12, and it informed the Ukrainian army of the violation. OSCE representatives ignored the report, and so did the Ukrainian representatives at the JCCC.

As a result, the leader of the DPR Denis Pushilin issued an ultimatum on September 5 demanding that the entrenchments must be destroyed, otherwise artillery fire would be opened. After this the Ukrainian side started taking measures.
