Kurginyan: The main issue in Belarus is the appropriateness of the leader

The main issue of political processes in Belarus is the question of the appropriateness of the leader of the state in terms of the situation in the country, political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on August 17 on the air of Vladimir Solovyov’s broadcast SolovyovLive.

Kurginyan noted that politicians who have been in power for a long time often lose the ability to constantly fight for power. However, this is an unacceptable political mistake, he emphasized.

“The main issue – is the appropriateness of the leader. There is a contagious disease in which people who have been in power for a very long time lose the ability to constantly fight for power. And a person must fight for power every second as long as he is in it. He can’t stop doing it, to abandon the reins and so on,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist also pointed out that it is not clear enough to what extent Lukashenko is aware of what is happening in the country. There is an assumption about the blurring of Lukashenko’s ideas about his social support base, about which groups of the population are his political support in the current situation, Kurginyan stressed.

“Watching Lukashenko, I can’t get the degree of his appropriateness in relation to what is happening. There is a feeling all the time that he doesn’t feel… ‘We live without feeling the country beneath our feet.’ Where is his social support? Where is it? What is it?”, he noted.
