Lukashenko himself destroyed a significant part of the pro-Russian forces in Belarus, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on August 17 on the air of Vladimir Solovyov’s broadcast SolovyovLive.
The political scientist pointed out that Russia is repeating all the mistakes it made during the events in Ukraine.
“The first and the foremost of these mistakes is “There is Batka [Lukashenko’s domestic nickname, meaning “daddy” or “pops” – translator’s note]! So, let us support this Batka, whatever he does. We will be friends with him, we will sign agreements with him. What do we care about all the others? Everything else is junk,” explained Kurginyan.
He noted that the protests are led by pro-Western opposition figures, while pro-Russian leaders are not seen or heard.
“Where is the other Belarus? It doesn’t matter whether it’s for or against Lukashenko, the alternative, where is it?” the analyst asked the question.
“And I’ll answer this question for you, which I’m posing to myself. Lukashenko himself destroyed most of it,” said Kurginyan.
He added that Yanukovich had done the same in Ukraine, as right-centrist leaders are afraid of pro-Russian parties the most, because they know that these parties are strong.
“He [Lukashenko – Rossa Primavera News Agency] himself, with his anti-Russian screams, threw these people away, and he kept throwing them away day in and day out. Now he has ended up with nothing,” summed up the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
