Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation: Criticism of Russian vaccine against coronavirus is unfounded

12.08.2020, Moscow.

Fear of competition has led to criticism of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus on the part of the foreign countries and media, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said at a briefing on August 12.

Murashko also called such criticism “unfounded.”

Russia has one of the best pharmacological surveillance systems, Murashko said. “It [pharmacovigilance] is built on modern principles, plus we have been preparing for three years for the b2b model,” he said. “Any drug, which enters the market, is monitored, especially in the case of a large number of recipients.” He also reminded that each vaccine ampoule is monitored; and for this purpose it is marked with QR code.

The head of the Ministry of Health said that within two weeks the first batches of vaccine will be released. According to him, it has already been used for synthesis and production, “In other words, this vaccine as a basis is quite well studied.” Murashko is also confident in the safety of the vaccine. “This is actually the safest way with enough knowledge,” he said.
